Budgets that hold past the second week.

Set a monthly or daily limit per category. Money Manager tracks spending against each one, warns you at 80 percent, and shows what is left.

A budget in Money Manager is a spending limit on a category, such as $600 for Food. Every expense you add, scan or sync counts against it. When a category reaches 80 percent you get a warning with a projection of where the month will end, and the dashboard always shows your total budget left.

Warning at 80 percent

Before the month gets away from you, not after. The bar turns red and a projection appears.

Monthly or daily limits

One limit for the whole month, or a limit for each day. Daily is monthly divided by the days left.

Budget left, always visible

The Insights tab shows Budget Left and Total Spent for the period, so you never do the math.

How budget planner works in practice.

Set a limit where you overspend, not everywhere

You do not need a budget for every one of the 45 categories. Most people set three to five. When you add an expense in a category with no limit, Money Manager shows what you are on pace to spend this month and offers to set one in two taps.

The projection is the part that changes behaviour

Hitting 80 percent on the 12th is different from hitting it on the 28th. The warning tells you roughly where the month will land at your current pace, so you can slow down while there is still time or adjust the limit with the slider.

Everything counts against the budget

Typed expenses, scanned receipts, imported statements and synced bank transactions all land in a category and all count. There is no second ledger to reconcile.

  • Budgeted categories sort to the top of the list
  • Budget Utilization shows every category against its limit

Getting started

Open Budget Settings

On the web go to Budgets. On the phone, open Settings and choose Budget Settings, or the Budget tab on iOS.

Pick a category and an amount

Tap a category, enter a monthly amount with the keypad, and choose a monthly or daily limit.

Keep adding transactions as usual

Every expense in that category counts toward the limit, whatever way it was added.

Act on the 80 percent warning

When the warning appears, slow down, or move the slider to adjust the limit for the rest of the month.
